Lundin Gold, through its Ecuadorian subsidiary Aurelian Ecuador S.A., owns the Fruta del Norte Mine (FDN), located in southeastern Ecuador in the Zamora Chinchipe Province.
Fruta del Norte (FDN) is one of the largest and highest grade gold deposits in the world currently in production. The Company has an experienced mine operations team dedicated to advancing FDN responsibly. In the fourth quarter of 2019, Lundin Gold realized first gold production as well as the first export of gold concentrate and doré. In the first quarter of 2020 FDN achieved commercial production. Lundin Gold operates transparently in accordance with international best practices and according to its three core principles: Working Safely, Environmental Stewardship and Respect.
THE ROLE
Be a leader for the HS team in the exploration team. Coordinate the different activities of the HS exploration, as well as the different Safety Systems implemented for Greenfield and Brownfield projects. Ensuring full compliance with all our legal obligations and always seeking to achieve the highest standards in Health and Safety.
Prepare and review procedures and other elements related to the Health and Safety management systems, as well as give adequate follow-up to action plans resulting from preventive activities in accordance with the company’s norms, policies and standards and the legal requirements of Ecuador, in order to create a proactive culture in decision-making for risk management and control.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Organize, coordinate and supervise the H&S area for the Exploration Department
- Coordinate and ensure compliance with standards (general and internal) on health and safety. As well as those of the internal work regulations, basic safety regulations.
- Advise the organization in the development and implementation of integrated systems of preventive management.
- Maintain updated accident statistics, training and health and safety management system indicators (KPI’s) in the areas for which he/she is responsible within the mining unit to comply with Ecuadorian regulations and Lundin GOLD standards, as well as to identify opportunities for improvement.
- He/she will lead the implementation of medium and short term action plans regarding the improvement of safety and health.
- Review and approve the H&S Training program prepared by the Coordinators, ensuring coverage of topics of relevance to the operation.
- Update the Critical Risk Control Program in accordance with the needs of the exploration.
- To review and validate the H&S structural procedures that will serve as the basis for the development and/or updating of the Standard Operating Procedures of exploration area, ensuring consistency with national and international regulations and business objectives.
- Participate and guide in accident investigation processes in accordance with the procedure and guidelines given by H&S Management.
- Review and update of standards, manuals, regulations, guidelines, procedures, instructions and other H&S tools for approval by H&S Management.
- Actively participate in H&S meetings with contractors.
- Develop and maintain indicators to monitor the performance of the Occupational Health and Safety Management System for the exploration area.
- Coordinate with management levels, superintendencies and supervision of exploration area in all matters concerning the implementation of standards, procedures, plans, programs or other initiatives in occupational health and industrial safety.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Third level academic training in Engineering in general engineering TECHNICAL branches of engineering, or preferably with complementary fourth level academic training (Master’s Degree in Industrial Safety / Occupational Risk Prevention).
- Major exploration Greenfield and Brownfield projects experience minimun 10 years.
- Experiece in large drilling programs, including in underground enviroments (Mandatory)
- Desirable experience in Tropical Forest environments
